We are located six miles South of Athens in the rolling hills of East Texas, an area primarily of cow/calf producers due to the soil and climate. Our goal is to produce fertile cattle with a moderate frame and good carcass EPD’s that are adaptable to Southern climates and soils. We are fortunate that Gene Sollock, Iola, TX has worked with us as a consultant in converting to a legume based grazing system. He spent many years in forage production and consulting with agricultural universities nation wide. We are also fortunate that we are acquainted with Dr. Jason Sawyer, Animal Nutritionist with Texas A&M University at College Station and Dr. Robert Winn at the Sulphur Springs Co-op, Sulphur Springs, TX. Based on an annual analysis of our forage, they have developed a protein supplement that is available to our cattle year round. This, along with minimal hay feeding and significant nitrogen savings, enables us to produce cattle efficiently. We are optimistic about the future of the beef cattle business and particularly the Angus breed. This is a good time to align management, genetics and goals. We have sold heifers and bulls throughout Texas, Kansas, Mississippi, Florida, etc. Our buyers often visit us to observe a legume based rotational grazing system using high tensile electric fencing.
